The SettingMemorial 3 is a telemetry monitoring floor at Binghamton General Hospital - part of United Health Services. Although there are many cardiac patients, the floor serves as a catch-all for the hospital with many medical and surgical admissions. The floor also has a satellite dialysis unit that serves Memorial three’s numerous dialysis patients during their hospital stay. Binghamton General Hospital serves as the area’s hospital for Psychiatric and alcohol & drug detoxification patients. Often Memorial Three will receive these patients until they are medically stable to move to the psychiatric floor or the detoxification unit. The ExperienceStarting as a New Graduate on Memorial Three has provided a great foundation to my nursing career. During my time on the floor I have been exposed to numerous areas of nursing and have been able to work with a variety of patients and patient family. The telemetry monitoring environment has allowed me to learn and become comfortable with reading cardiac monitor strips and those aspects of patient care. Being a monitored environment, I have also learned how to push a variety of cardiac IV medications and run certain cardiac drips. Working with dialysis patients, I have learned how to gain access to hemo dialysis catheters. Memorial Three is a busy floor for Cardiologists, Nephrologists, Endocrinologists, Hospitalists and Medical Residents, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Pharmacists and Dieticians. Having numerous health care professionals continually on the floor has given me the opportunity to learn to collaborate with these professionals and be an advocate for the patient and their care.
